Setup Details for Windows 98 
Dialup Internet Access

These instructions are straight forward and assume that you are starting from scratch. If your computer came pre-configured, following this procedure will help verify that all settings are correct.

1.On the desktop, double-click on My Computer 
2.Double-click the Dial-Up Networking folder.
3.If the Dial-Up Networking folder does not exist, click [here] 
4.Click [ here] for the local access numbers. (You can make a note of the number you want to use, or simply leave the window that will appear open until asked for it in the Make New Connection wizard.)

5.Then double-click on the Make New Connection icon and run through the wizard, name the connection FloridaWebmaster if you don't mind, otherwise any name that wish.

5a. Click Next

5b. Enter the area code and telephone number selected previously.

5c. Click Next.

5d. Click Finish

6.After the connection is created you should be returned to the Dial-Up Networking Screen as pictured below, click once on FloridaWebmaster icon to highlight it (if the Connect to box comes up just press Cancel, and continue with these instructions). 

7.Next: At the top of the window click on File and go to Properties.

9.As exampled below a FloridaWebmaster Properties window will appear with buttons or tabs at the top of the window. One assumes your connection will be a local call, so uncheck the "Use area code and Dialing Properties" box.

9.In FloridaWebmaster Properties window click the Server Types button or tab. Click on it to get to that screen. 

10.Verify that Type of Dial-Up Server is set to PPP, Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98. 
10a. Verify that NetBEUI, and IPX/SPX Compatible are unchecked.
10c. Verify that Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP boxes are checked.
10d.Click OK and you will be back in Dial-Up Networking
 
11.You'll be returned to the Dial-up Networking window. Highlight FloridaWebmaster and go to File and then Create Shortcut.
12.A window will pop up saying that it cannot create the shortcut here and if you want it to be placed on
the desktop. Click Yes  

 

13.Close Dial-Up Networking and My Computer. Your ready to try your FloridaWebmaster dial-up connection.

14 On your desk top locate and double click the FloridaWebmaster icon.

15. A Connect To window should appear as exampled below. 

15a. Within the User name box enter, in lower case letters without the quotes, "fwc#your_user_name@myuplink.com".
15b. Within the Password box enter, in lower case, your password.
15c. Verify that the Save password box is checked. 
15d. If the modem is on a line with call waiting you will need to disable it otherwise leave the Phone Number box alone. The most common disable code is *70 and the proper syntax is "*70, xxx-xxxx".

16. Click Connect. You should here the modem dialing and shortly after will connect and verify your user name and password. Once connected 2 small monitors will appear in the lower right hand corner of your task bar indicating a live connection.
